Kudos to the Kauai Community College culinary arts department on doing a great job hosting the Spring Gourmet Gala mahalo event! The students were still reeling from the American Culinary Federation breakfast and the Chef Lee Anne Wong (that’s a lot of dumplings), but dove into the event to create, as Wanda Shibata describes, “all gourmet items.”
Makenna Pascua (she was a big scholarship winner at the breakfast) is indeed Vance Pascua’s daughter, and she was working with Tori Pagador to get all those cakes refined and served.
Jason Sessions was there all the way from the Westin Princeville, but had to run to take care of the dining room, there, and Kui Souza of the Waimea High School culinary academy was representing the Westside. Coach Alton Amimoto (yep, Ryker was there, too) is getting ready for the KIF golf opener, Saturday, and Ray Ishihara said he’s going to be a spectator when KIF baseball gets underway.
OK, time for the East Kauai Lions Club annual pancake breakfast Sunday at the Elsie Wilcox Elementary School cafeteria (Barbara Gusman at the Courtyard by Marriott at Coconut Beach, and Sharon Lasker at the Regency at Puakea said they still have some tickets left).
