HANAPEPE — Kauai High School has two teams participating in the Waimea High School baseball tournament, said Aaron Uyeda, coach of the Kauai B team.
“One of the teams dropped out,” Uyeda said. “Hank Ibia, the Kauai head coach, said we could form two teams to ensure an 8-team field for the tournament. Hank is coaching the A team and I’ll help with the B team.”
Kauai High’s A team lost to Mid-Pacific Institute, 10-1, at Hanapepe Stadium. Kauai’s B team defeated Lahainaluna, 6-3, at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue, Ibia said.
Results of Thursday’s game between Waimea and Waipahu High School weren’t available by press time.
“Originally, Lahaina was scheduled to play at the Waimea High School field,” Uyeda said. “But the earliest flight they could get put them on Kauai after noon. They’re staying at the Waimea Plantation Cottages, and since we’re hosting them, we just moved the game to Vidinha Stadium rather than have the Lunas drive all the way out to Waimea, and all the way back to Lihue.”
Winners of the games advance through the championship bracket to the championship game scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium. Losers move to the consolation bracket.
