Mark Vidinha’s sons, Michaiah and Mason, had never had malasadas.
Originally from Pakala, Mark moved to Boise, Idaho 35 years ago. They returned for a visit and had a lot of catching up to do as his wife Patti indulged in a macadamia nut ice cream cone while waiting on their batch of malasadas at the West Kauai Methodist Church booth during the Waimea Town Celebation.
The event, featuring food, sporting activities, and cultural history, is touted as the island’s largest and oldest annual festival on the Westside, celebrating its history and tightknit community with eight days of cultural and recreational events.
West Kauai Business and Professional Association spearheads the Waimea Town Celebration with help from more than a handful of corporate sponsors to make this event, celebrating its 40th year, take place throughout the town.
