Kauai residents under a terminated Medicare Advantage Part D plan have until Feb. 29 to choose another plan.
The people under that plan, which included prescription coverage, were notified in October, and everyone on the plan was transitioned to the original Medicare plan in January, said Nic Peterson, a Hawaii sales director for Humana Senior Products.
“This year, like last year, plans were terminated in Kauai County, Maui County and Hawaii County,” he said.
Under 100 Kauai residents are effected by the change, he said.
Those residents have to choose to stay on the original Medicare plan, a stand-alone prescription drug plan or a new Medicare Advantage plan, which includes drug prescriptions, he said.
“When choosing plans, be aware of costs,” he said. “In Kauai, plans range from having no premium to premiums up to $196. A savvy shopper will compare those costs.”
After Feb. 29, residents on Medicare will have to make due with the original Medicare plan, which doesn’t cover most prescriptions, Peterson said.
