Respect property and privacy
The owner who rents the closest house to us is upsetting. Dad and I were talking in the barbecue shack on the far side of our property after dark. This landlord came up the backside of the property and asked us, “So you live here now?” To which I responded, “The property is three-quarters of an acre and there used to be a house here but now it’s gone and there’s a house on the far side … we have been here for 50 years and yes, we live here. Is that clear enough?”
Apparently his tenant(s) are complaining now that we are using our property and feel their “privacy” has been compromised. Well, if he wanted to secure his tenants privacy he should not have built so close to our property line.
We never complained when the two houses were built right next to our property. And it seems the tenant who is complaining has often shaped surfboards at 2 a.m. (the whine of power tools in the middle of the night). We lost our privacy first. And if those people expected to keep their privacy, they should have secured larger lots and not relied on complaining the neighbor is actually living in and doing things on their own property.

‘Dedicated to the one I love’
What does this really mean? To the 1 percent, it’s meaning can be found on the back of a dollar bill — “The one eye love.” But is money really the root of all evil? Most of us would love to have a lot of money. Nonetheless, is it the obsession to possess a symbol of power that determines wherein the evil lies?
Most of us would agree that obsession is not the healthy or optimal choice. How could we consider a chump like Trump to be a reasonable choice for president? He seems to me to be a blowhard, obsessed not only with money and power, but also with himself — a fanatic who easily becomes erratic.
Likewise, how could we choose someone like Cruz? Was it not the Republican President Ronald Reagan who said in Berlin: “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”? I guess that Cruz just hasn’t heard the news. Why would we want to build a new one on our border?
Politics aside, 20 years ago I took a bride to my side. My wife was the best choice of my life. To be able to be dedicated to the ones you love is one choice we are all capable of. That is one alternative we can all vote for.
And amazingly, there are no losers in that contest. Here’s hoping that you have a happy and dedicated Valentine’s Day.
