KALAHEO — Talia Washington posted 18 points and Lilya Cummings added 10 points to lead the Kauai Ballers to a 41-30 win over the Kauai Lynx B team Monday night during the county’s youth Division I girls basketball games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The Kauai Ballers jumped to an 8-2 second period before the Lynx B got started, finishing the third period, 9-7 before the enthusiastic audience.
Hailey Overmyer of the Kauai Ballers triggered the cheering in the final 10 seconds of the half, netting a bomb from outside the three-point mark. But the Lynx B answered with a bucket to trim the Ballers to a 17-14 bulge at the break.
Kaylee Alapai of the Lynx B continued to stoke the audience, hitting a three-ball in the fourth period to knot the contest, 21-21 and Amalya Sales finding the net on a pair for the 23-21 go-ahead.
But the Ballers did not relent and a bucket at the buzzer knotted the contest, 23-23. The Ballers rained basketballs in the final period to outdistance the Lynx B, aided by the rebounding led by Cummings and Washington to quell the Lynx challenge.
Joining the leaders, Tory Refamonte added six points, and Overmyer added five points, including the only trey notched by the Ballers. A final period pair by Kayla Tangalin rounded out the math.
Sales topped the Lynx B scoring on 11 points followed by Alapai finishing with seven points, including one of two treys, and Bailey Perreira added six points. Jasmyne Ballesteros finished with four points and a pair from Jessica Cezar rounded out the scoring.
Westside 31, A‘o Aku Rebels 11
Cori Burton netted nine points, Ashlyn Agena added eight points, and Bella Bateman finished with six points to lead the Westside basketball girls to its 31-11 showing over the A‘o Aku Rebels of Hanamaulu.
Deyshia Kenney, Tisha Burton, Jayla Albina and Brychelle Kalai each scored a pair in the win.
Brianna Bernardo scored seven- points to lead the Rebels. Amy Khoang and Brooklyne Alayvilla each added pairs in the effort.
Kaulupono 34, Kauai Lynx A 22
Tiana Joy Ramos, Braelyn Cayaban and Hazel Serapio each scored six points to lead the undefeated Kaulupono girls to its 34-22 win over the Kauai Lynx A team in the nightcap. Kierstin Gummerus topped the scoring with eight points and Layla Tapucol added a pair. Sofia Colagreco and Kayla Santos each finished with a digit.
Angeline Nizo scored 12 points, 10 dropping in the final period, including a trey, to lead the Kauai Lynx A effort. Katrina Cadiz added four, Chizelle Dela Cruz finished with three, Shaelyn Pardua added a pair, and a digit from Deannalyn Alfonso rounded out the effort.
