Frederick Rapheal ‘Raffy’ Carrillo
Frederick Rapheal “Raffy” Carrillo peacefully passed away on Jan. 15, 2016, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital and was surrounded with aloha as he ascended to join his ancestors. He was a retired bus driver with the County of Kauai, Department of Transportation for over 20 years. He lived and enjoyed his life to the fullest. He was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his legacy.
He is preceded in death by, father, William K. Carrillo; mother, Virginia K. Carrillo; sisters, Wilma Meyer and Luana Young and his nephew, Stanley Farias.
Raffy is survived by his children, daughters, Ruth Naomi (Michael) Taboniar of Anahola and Violet (Dondi) Carrillo of Oahu; sons, Mark (Jolyn) Carrillo of Alaska and Jason (Keli’i) Carrillo of Alaska; as well as, Debra (Michael) Poe of Hanamaulu, Coreena (Kalei) Like of Alaska, Doreen (Ricky) Brun of Kalaheo, Dal Olivas of Kalihiwai, Lori Olivas of Hanamaulu, April (Ian) Christian of Kapaa and Esther (Puna) Strom of Maui; his long-term companion, Ahmoi Kawamura; grandchildren, Noelle (Eddie) Taboniar, Jordan Taboniar, Gabby Taboniar, Tory Taboniar, Bryson Carrillo, Brennen Carrillo and Byron Carrillo; great-grandchildren, Kyra Tydingco, Ike Tydingco, and Tre Tydingco; along with other numerous grand- and great-grandchildren; brother, William K. Carrillo, Jr. and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at the Anahola Beach Park. Services will begin at 10 a.m. on the beach side.
The family suggests casual/aloha attire. Flowers and leis are welcomed.

Frances Kahikilani W. Ohai
Frances Kahikilani W. Ohai returned home to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at the age of 97. She was born on Feb. 21, 1918, to Harry Lester White Sr. and Annie K. Kane.
She worked as a World War II telecommunications operator, a butcher at a fish and meat market, a salesperson, a farmer, a restaurant co-owner, a librarian at Coco Palms Hotel and a Hawaiian Studies Kupuna with the Department of Education.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Ohai; parents, Harry Lester White Sr. and Annie K. Kane; siblings, Emogene Kalanui, Mary Baysa, James Keao, Annie Keao, Eleanor Battad, Harry Lester White II, Pearl Kaopio, George White, Blossom Kauanui and Vernon White.
She is survived by numerous hanai children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Frances will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kapaa. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. Services will commence at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at the Kapaa Public Cemetary.
Casual attire suggested.

Raymond Espino Sr.
Raymond Espino Sr. passed away at KVMH on Jan. 11, 2016, at the age of 79. Born on April 27, 1936, in Waimea, Kauai, he was a retired electrician with Olokele Sugar Company.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol Espino; son, Raymond “Kokosoi” Espino Jr.; sister, Juana Domingo, Rose Caluya and Diane Esdicul.
Raymond is survived by his sons, Robby L. Espino of Kaumakani and Anson M. Espino of Kaumakani; daughters, Melanie (Roger) Honjo of Kalaheo, and Lorelei (Bala) Campos of Kipu; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Placido “Sonny” (Esther) Espino Jr. of Makakilo and Anthony “Tony” Espino of the Philippines; sisters, Mercy (Andy) Gorospe of Oahu, Alfonsa Maligro of Oahu, Julia McCullen of Oahu and Geraldine (Elisio) Dureg of Oahu and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family for a Celebration of Life at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016. Friends may visit with the family at 8 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire and are graciously declining flowers.

Crispin Menor Tacata
Crispin Menor Tacata of Kekaha, Kauai passed away at KVMH on Jan. 15, 2016, at the age of 77. Born on Oct. 25, 1938, in Pasuquin, Philippines, he was a retired Truck Driver with Kekaha Sugar Plantation.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Juana Tacata and brothers, Prudencio Tacata Sr. and Constante Tacata.
Crispin is survived by his wife, Betsy Lagoc Tacata; sons, Eddie (Sarah) Tacata of Paia, Maui, Jesus (Belinda) Tacata of Hanapepe, Kauai, and Jonathan Tacata of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters, Anna (Mark) McClure of Waipahu, Oahu, Kristine (David Campos) Tacata of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Natalie Tacata of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren, Cindi (Marvin) Tumpap, Matthew McClure, Bryson Tacata, Brock Tacata and Keanu Campos; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at the St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. with Mass to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at the Kekaha Public Cemetery.

Glenn Hontz
Glenn Hontz of Poipu, Kauai, transitioned to a new life on Jan. 20, 2016, at the age of 87. He was born on June 5, 1928, in Plattsburgh, New York.
Glenn was involved in many things over the course of a very productive life. His passions were teaching and humanitarian causes. He was a professor at University of Rochester, New York; Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana; University of Hawaii at Manoa, Oahu and Kauai Community College, Lihue.
He initiated many programs; he would take on a job against apparently insurmountable odds, and reach his goal. No goal was too challenging because he planned for the long term. He was ever optimistic with his eye to the future. He lived a very meaningful life. He was ahead of his time in understanding the needs of the world.
Glenn Hontz was a brilliant visionary fueled by a powerful education. He was a warm, caring humanitarian who always strove for the higher, more integrative path, whether it be in consulting, desegregation, teaching, farming, advertising, program development, leadership, or friendship. Glenn touched so many lives; he was deeply loved by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bessie Hontz; survived by his wife, Virginia Dunas, Poipu; son, Steven Hontz, Lihue; daughter, Erika (Jeff) Robinson, Oregon; brother, Howard Hontz, New York; hanai children Jedd Dunas, Tiburon, Calif., Felice Dunas, Los Angeles, Calif., Kelly (Tom) Cox Quayle, Dylan Thomas Quayle, Ventura, Calif.; Brendan J. Claybourn, Los Angeles, Calif. and numerous other hanai children, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

All are welcome at Glenn’s Celebration of New Life on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, 5 p.m. at the Smith Memorial Parsonage, 3281 Waikomo Road, Koloa. Please park on the street or at Koloa Union Church, 3289 Poipu Road. Waikomo is the road on the left just south of the church; The parsonage is the 5th house on the left. There will be many incarnated angels, food and beverage, stories to share, laughter and tears, prayers, music and song. Bring your favorite potluck and beverage. Let’s come together and love one another in honor of this great man.

Wendall ‘Jumbo’ Kalaniana’ole Kwai Chun Fu
Wendall “Jumbo” Kalaniana’ole Kwai Chun Fu died at home surrounded by his family on Jan. 25, 2016, at the age of 63. He was born in Lihue to Clara Lihau (Enrique) Fu and Edwin “Ah Meng” Fu. Wendall worked as a Na Pali tour operator, fisherman, construction worker and at Hanalei Club Med, Hanalei Bay Resort and Princeville Resort. He was a founding member of Hanalei Canoe Club, an avid waterman and loved playing music with his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Charleen “Shasha” Kinney and brother-in-laws, Kevin McDermott and Thomas “Peewee” Giltner.
Wendall is survived by his wife, Joanna Fu; son, Tyrone (Esmeralda) Fu; daughter, Jessica Kaui (Lionel) Fu; son, Nicholas Kaimana (Ashley) Fu; three grandchildren, Mary, Lyla and Ridge; siblings, brother, Edwin (Aleta) Fu Jr., sisters, Edleen Kaui, Claradeen Fu McDermott, Helena Giltner, Marleen (Greg) Fu; brother-in-law, William “Blue” Kinney; numerous uncles, aunties, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mildred Kuki Kolo Chow of Puhi passed away in Lihue on Jan. 22, 2016, at the age of 87. Born on July 14, 1928, in Lihue, she was a laundry attendant with Kaua’i Surf Hotel, honorary member of ‘Ahahui Ka’ahumanu Society chapter 6 Kaua’i and member of Alu Like Kupuna program.
Preceded in death by husband, Richard Ah Hung Chow Sr.; son, Timmy Jay Ah Tai Chow Sr.; hanai son, Kaleo Oana; parents, William Kaiwi Sr. and Mary Kanikela Kolo; siblings, Mary Magdalene Chow, William Kaiwi Kolo Jr., David Kawika Kolo, Samuel Palea Kolo, Alapai Kolo, Lorraine Kawahine Kilomana Danner, Norman Keali’iaukai Kolo, Leslie Kanikela Kolo, Lillian Leihulu Agtarap, Alice Puanani Silverman.

Clarence Arruda
Clarence Arruda of Kapaa passed away at the age of 87 on Feb. 2, 2016, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Born on Jan. 27, 1929, he was a retired Sergeant Major, E-9 with the U.S. Army.
He is preceded in death by his son, Mark Arruda and sister, Lucille Slanus.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Puanani Edith Arruda; son, Marvin Arruda of Washington; daughter, Puanani M. Arruda of Waimea, Kauai; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Joaquin N. Arruda and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Natsuko Y. Tada
Natsuko Yamamoto Tada of Kapaa, Kauai passed away at home on Jan. 24, 2016, at the age of 86. Born on July 4, 1929, in Honolulu, Oahu, she was employed at Kapaa Big Save Snack Bar and Kapaa Bakery.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Yonezo and Mine Yamamoto; brother, Ben T. Yamamoto and sister, Tsugie Nakamoto.
Natsuko is survived by her husband, Edward Haruo Tada of Kapaa; sons, Glenn (Karyn) Tada of Hilo, Hawaii Island and Leslie Tada of Kapaa, Kauai; daughters, Deborah (Randy Wong) Tada of Honolulu, Oahu and Susan (Loran) Wilson of Honolulu, Oahu; five grandchildren, Roslyn Ladera, Aaron Tada, Kendall Tada, Daniel Tada and Lindsey Wilson; sister, Reiko Yoshimura of Wahiawa, Oahu and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Natsuko’s Life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, at the Kapaa Hongwanji Mission. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. with services to follow at 3 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Angela Primina Yokotake of Honolulu, passed away on Jan. 18, 2016 in Honolulu at the age of 91. She is a retired Waimea High School elementary school child caregiver on Kauai. She is survived by daughters, Niki Fukuroda and Penny Murata; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons. Visitation 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb 13, 2016, at Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary; service at 5 p.m.

Dorothy Fumie Ikehara
Dorothy Fumie Ikehara of Hanapepe passed away at home on Jan. 31, 2016, at the age of 95. She was born in Kohala, Hawaii Island on Aug. 15, 1920, and was the proprietor of Dottie’s Bar and Sunrise Cafe.
Preceded in death by her husband, Seiyei “Francis” Ikehara; two sons, Francis and Ronald Ikehara; one daughter, Rachael Kimura; brothers, Antoku Kaneshiro, Robert Tokusei Kaneshiro, Charles Tokuo Kaneshiro and Dickie Kentoku Kaneshiro.
Dorothy is survived by daughter, Kathleen (John) Sundar; two sons, Cedrick Ikehara and Kenneth (Lynn) Ikehara; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Kazuko Higa; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
