LIHUE — Valentine’s Day is around the corner and Zonta Club of Kauai is inviting you to its 23rd annual Eat Dessert First.
“As a member we’re all excited,” said Edie Ignacio Neumiller, past president of Zonta Club of Kauai. “I just want to make sure that everything falls together seamlessly. Once we get there, everybody has got to be on their toes.”
More than 60 volunteers will be helping the 21 club members at the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort in the Jasmine Ballroom Thursday where entertainment, food and desserts will be in abundance while it hosts its silent auction between 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., where the proceeds go for scholarships.
“This year’s Eat Dessert First scholarship fundraiser is dedicated in memory of long time member, Mary Thronas, who served effortlessly in several capacities,” Neumiller said of the 42-year Zonta veteran. “Mary passed away in December and will be deeply missed.”
Local vendors will showcase desserts. There will be treats from Haole Girls, Island Sweets, Ko Bakery, Ono Pops and Kauai coffee.
“We’re going to have a photo booth with a Valentine’s Day theme,” Neumiller said.
Neumiller said she expects about 400 people to attend.
There will be music by Cruz Control.
Items up for auction include jewelry, books, handbags, tote bags, and gift certificates.
Advance tickets, $25, are available across Kauai, including: The Wine Shop in Koloa, Salty Wahine in Hanapepe, Monkey Pod Jam in Lawai, Vicky’s Fabrics in Kapaa, Island Ace Hardware in Princeville, Hairmates on Akahi Street in Lihue, Déjà vu Surf at both the Kapaa and Kukui Grove location and the Right Slice in Kalaheo and Harbor Mall.
