Elaine Tamura
Elaine Setsuko Tamura of Kapaa passed away at her home on Dec. 22, 2015, at the age of 82. She was born on Kauai on Feb. 12, 1933, and retired from the State of Hawaii as a Personnel Clerk at Kauai Community College.
Preceded in death by her husband, Charles Tamura; son, Reid Ko Tamura; parents, Kenzo and Shizue Urabe.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Faith (Curtis) Shiramizu of Kapaa; sons, Chris (Doreen) Tamura of Kapaa, Rand (Lisa) Tamura of California; eight grandchildren, Daurice (Cliff) Arruda, Teresa (Brent) Amoy, Cy Tamura, Sean (Sarah) Tamura, Robin Lore (Erika Adams-Lavoie), Le’a (Gabe) Kama, Alexis Tamura (Jessie) Moniz and Ty Shiramizu, 13 great-grandchildren; brother, George (Lily) Urabe of Pearl City; sister-in-law, Betty Urabe of California; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held with inurnment at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Tamura family with arrangements.
Glenn Hontz
Glenn Hontz of Poipu, Kauai, transitioned to a new life on Jan. 20, 2016, at the age of 87. He was born on June 5, 1928, in Plattsburgh, New York.
Glenn was involved in many things over the course of a very productive life. His passions were teaching and humanitarian causes. He was a professor at University of Rochester, New York; Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana; University of Hawaii at Manoa, Oahu and Kauai Community College, Lihue.
He initiated many programs; he would take on a job against apparently insurmountable odds, and reach his goal. No goal was too challenging because he planned for the long term. He was ever optimistic with his eye to the future. He lived a very meaningful life. He was ahead of his time in understanding the needs of the world.
Glenn Hontz was a brilliant visionary fueled by a powerful education. He was a warm, caring humanitarian who always strove for the higher, more integrative path, whether it be in consulting, desegregation, teaching, farming, advertising, program development, leadership, or friendship. Glenn touched so many lives; he was deeply loved by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bessie Hontz; survived by his wife, Virginia Dunas, Poipu; son, Steven Hontz, Lihue; daughter, Erika (Jeff) Robinson, Oregon; brother, Howard Hontz, New York; hanai children Jedd Dunas, Tiburon, Calif., Felice Dunas, Los Angeles, Calif., Kelly (Tom) Cox Quayle, Dylan Thomas Quayle, Ventura, Calif.; Brendan J. Claybourn, Los Angeles, Calif. and numerous other hanai children, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

All are welcome at Glenn’s Celebration of New Life on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, 5 p.m. at the Smith Memorial Parsonage, 3281 Waikomo Road, Koloa. Please park on the street or at Koloa Union Church, 3289 Poipu Road. Waikomo is the road on the left just south of the church; The parsonage is the 5th house on the left. There will be many incarnated angels, food and beverage, stories to share, laughter and tears, prayers, music and song. Bring your favorite potluck and beverage. Let’s come together and love one another in honor of this great man.

Eleanora S. Manaday
Surrounded by her family and loved ones in the Vallejo, Calif. home of her oldest daughter, Judith Solovieff, Eleanora S. Manaday passed away on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015. She was born on Kauai, and lived here until the year prior to her passing. While raising a family of four children, she was also a nurse and worked at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital, Samuel Mahelona Hospital and Kauai Care for more than 40 years.
Eleanora loved to cook, especially local island dishes. She was an avid reader, and the Sunday newspaper was one of her favorites. She thoroughly enjoyed watching both television game shows The Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. Her additional leisure past time activities included shopping, growing orchids and antheriums, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Judith Ann Solovieff, Russell (Sun Cha) Manaday, Wesley Manaday, and Alison (Kevin) Brown; sister Juanita Umipeg; grandchildren Emily and Alexander Solovieff, Jennifer and Jonathan Manaday and Joanna and Rachel Brown and her great grandchildren Max Russell Manaday-Pilkington, Gabriel Nicolas Solovieff and Charlotte Ann Reikowsky.
Eleanora is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Martin Manaday; her brothers Julian, Richard and Sunday Sabala; her sisters Esperanza( formerly Takabayashi) Lacuesta, Rosario Santiago, and Camela Sasan; and her son- in- law Nicolas E. Solovieff.
A private visitation for the family and close friends was held at Twin Chapels Mortuary in Vallejo on Friday, August 21st. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2016, at St. Catherine of Sienna Church also in Vallejo.
On Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, a memorial Mass will take place at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihue at 10 a.m. Visiting time with the family will be from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.. Internment following services will be at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Doris Ashman
Doris Ashman passed away peacefully on Jan. 18, 2016, at Canyon Lakes Rehab Center in Kennewick, Wash., with 11 members of our family by her side. She didn’t recover from her severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Her days and nights were becoming more and more unbearable. At last she is resting in peace in a most beautiful place.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence (Mike). For over 80 years, Doris and Mike were best friends and deeply in love with each other, 72 years as husband and wife, sweethearts.
They met while taking part in a Sunday School Easter pageant in their San Francisco neighborhood Baptist Church in 1934. They married in 1944 in San Francisco, and moved to Hawaii in 1948. They lived on Kauai, Oahu, Lanai, Mindanao, Saipan and California before retiring at Princeville, and later to Kennewick, Wash. At a future date, their ashes will be co-mingled and scattered at Hanalei Bay on Kauai, their island home for so many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Hartz of Prosser, Wash.; two sons, Michael of Kula, Hawaii, William (Bill) of San Jose, Calif.; son-in law, Ken Hartz; daughters-in-law, Naomi Ashman,, Carol Ashman; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
We will all miss her. We’ll always remember how she led in creating a loving family. And, while we may no longer have her with us when the family gets together, we’ll always be able to hold her and see her within our memories and our hearts.
Andrea Ruiz Toribio
Andrea Ruiz Toribio passed away in California on Sept. 16, 2015, at the age of 91. She was born on Nov. 30, 1923.
Preceded in death by her husband, Raymundo Toribio.
Andrea is survived by two sons, Benjamin (Daisy) Toribio of Kauai, Victor (Annie) Toribio of Florida; two daughters, Maean (Marty) Studley of California, Daphne (Ron) Nelson of Maui; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; brother, Roland (Sharon) Ruiz of Massachusetts; numerous nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at St. Catherine Church with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 9 a.m. Inurnment will be held at Kauai Memorial Gardens at noon.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Toribio family with arrangements.
William John Aldrich
William John Aldrich, aka “Joshua” peacefully passed in his home and walked up the stairway to heaven on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Joshua was born Oct. 11, 1962, in Huntington Beach, Calif. He is survived by his son, William Baxter, his two granddaughters Alexis and Destiny Baxter, and his ex-wife, Theresa Baxter.
He was loved abundantly, more than words can justify. Joshua was a very spiritually in tune individual. His true passion and calling was practicing martial arts. Joshua was a seventh degree black belt and was considered a master. He was preparing to open his own association, IKKA (International Kenpo Karate Association). Joshua’s dream was to live a long and peaceful life in Hawaii.
His celebration of life is being held at 3613 Capitol Drive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80526, Feb. 20, at noon. We love you, papasan.
Pearl Farias
Pearl Farias of Lihue, Kauai passed away on Jan. 21, 2016, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 66. She was born on Jan. 25, 1949, in Oahu and owned her own cleaning service.
Pearl is survived by her husband, Christopher “Chris” Farias; two sons, Robert Gonzalez, Trini Gonzalez; three daughters, Debra Gonzalez, Sandra Gonzalez, Tessie Gonzalez; three sisters, Evelyn Joseph, Helen Tozer and Patsy Clymer; brother, Joseph Gonsalves, 26 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 to 9 p.m. and services will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Cremation to follow.

Erlinda A. Banquel
Erlinda “Linda” Susan Acoba Banquel of Eleele passed away at Kauai Veteran’s Memorial Hospital at the age of 66. She was born on Nov. 28, 1949, on Oahu at Kapiolani, and graduated from Waimea High School in 1967. Pearl was a retired school teacher with Eleele Elementary School.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Acoba and Yukio Oyakawa.
Linda is survived by her husband, Robert Banquel; sons, Ki Banquet of Kauai, Hawaii and Jordan Banquet of Las Vegas; two grandchildren, Lanakila Gushiken-Banquel and Makani Gushiken-Banquel of Kauai; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Interment will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Aloha attire is suggested, and flowers are welcomed.

Henry Abreu
Henry Abreu of Kalaheo passed away at Straub Hospital on Oahu on Jan. 24, 2016, at the age of 83. He was born on July 15, 1932, in Makaweli and he was a retired construction laborer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leatrice Joy Abreu; brothers, William Abreu, James Abreu, Eddie Abreu and sister, Beatrice Capoci.
Henry is survived by daughters, Helen Abreu of Kalaheo, Karen Hudson of Oahu, Joycelyn (Evan) Vasconcelles of Lawai and Rose Canales of Lawai; grandchildren, Alana (Darren) Agustin, Waylon Brun, Victoria Hudson, Alexis Hudson, Kira Abreu and Sarah Canales; great-grandchidren, Aaliyah and Dakota Agustin; brother, Nelson (Tina) Abreu and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Henry’s life will be held on Feb. 27, 2016, at St Raphael’s Catholic Church in Koloa. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with Mass to follow.
Donna ‘Honey’ Hardy
Donna “Honey” Hardy of Lawai, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at home, at the age of 62.
She’s preceded in death by her husband, David E. Hardy; parents, Lynn and Mae VanMaurik; and four legged best friend, Duke “The Wonder Dog.”
Honey is survived by her sisters, Susan, Deb, Pauline and Karen; brother, Lynn and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Honey’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016. A Facebook event has been created: “Honey Hardy: Celebration of Life.”
