LIHUE — Kaiser Permanente announced the hiring of two new family physicians based at the Kaiser Permanente Lihue Clinic, set to open Thursday as the organization’s first facility on Kauai.
Dr. Kapua Medeiros and Dr. Bridget Collins will provide primary care for members of all ages on the Garden Island. They join more than 600 physicians and other health care providers within the state’s largest medical group, the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, which provides comprehensive care to Kaiser Permanente’s 245,000-plus members in Hawaii.
“We’re fortunate to welcome Dr. Medeiros and Dr. Collins to our team as we open our first facility on Kauai,” said Mary Ann Barnes, RN, president of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals Hawaii Region. “By offering high-quality health care professionals in our Lihue Clinic, combined with lab and pharmacy services under one roof, we’re expanding access to convenient, top-notch care on Kauai.”
Medeiros earned her medical degree from the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine, where she completed her residency in family medicine. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, she served as a physician at Hoola Lahui Hawaii, Kauai Community Health Center, providing pediatric, gynecologic, geriatric and primary care.
Medeiros, who is from Anahola, serves as a Kauai representative for the Hawaii Academy of Family Physicians.
Collins is a board-certified family medicine physician practicing for more than 20 years. She earned her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas, and completed her family medicine residency at Methodist Hospital of Dallas/Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Dr.
Collins has practiced at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital since 2007, serving as medical director of long-term care and acute units since 2010. In the community, Dr. Collins sits on the St. Catherine School carnival board as a committee chair.
Kaiser Permanente will maintain existing contracts with dozens of affiliated physicians and providers on Kauai, so Kaiser Permanente members will be able to continue receiving care from their personal physicians.
