Roads dangerous at night
As a many time visitor over the last 15 years, I wish to echo Joyce Packard’s letter of Jan. 29 in The Garden Island.
The Koloa roads at night are seriously dangerous. We stay in the Poipu area and we very often would like to go to restaurants to the East and North but the thought of the return drive through this area after dark is not worth the strain and stress.
We are not alone in this view as we have discussed this with many people we have met on our visits. If the powers that be do not see this a safety issue, perhaps they might consider the economic one. It would be really unfortunate for a tragic accident to prompt action.
It is a problem.

Airline needs more competition
Another tone-deaf statement from Hawaiian Airlines that it has almost doubled their adjusted net profits in 2015, but will not reduce interisland fares. What a surprise. The excess profits are being used to pay down/off debt while residents go into debt to be able to travel between islands. Has your income almost doubled in a year?
Hawaii residents need competition from Southwest or Jet Blue for commuter flights between islands. I wonder how much of Hawaiian Airline’s 2015 profits will go toward protecting their monopoly and keeping competition out.
