LIHUE — For Char Ravelo, this weekend’s Wellness Expo is a way for the community to come together and share tips for living a healthier lifestyle.
“It ties into New Year’s resolutions,” she said. “It’s about education and taking responsibility for your own health.”
The expo will feature exhibits from local experts in health and wellness, said Ravelo, publisher for Hawaii’s Inspiration Magazine.
Expo exhibits include massages, essential oils, anti-aging procedures and a discussion on good health vitamins, Ravelo said.
“It gives everyone a chance to get hands-on experience with these different wellness options,” Ravelo said.
The expo is Saturday and Sunday but the event’s organizers will be handing out fliers Friday at the Financial Empowerment for Women Conference, hosted by the Young Women’s Christian Association of Kauai.
The conference will feature seminars on topics like investing, real estate, how to start a business, budgeting and improving interview skills.
“It’s a safe place for women to go and learn about different options,” Ravelo said. “We wanted to partner with them because finances are the No. 1 stress for women, and we want participants know how manage the stress.”
In addition to booths, Saturday will feature a Tai Ji presentation. Tai Ji, a Chinese term for being in a state of infinite potential, will be taught by Master Chungliang Al Huang, founder and president of the Living Tao Foundation.
The Living Tao Foundation is a nonprofit educational and cultural arts foundation that aims to help everyone enjoy a healthy and creative life.
Huang, also a dancer and choreographer, was a speaker at the 2012 Wellness Expo.
“He talks about the beauty of movement, the chi in your body, and how it’s all for wellness,” Ravelo said. “He takes you on a journey, and it’s beautiful.”
Inspiration for the Wellness Expo came 12 years ago when the public started getting together to share tips for a healthy lifestyle, Ravelo said.
“It’s morphed into something beautiful,” she said.
The Wellness Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kauai War Memorial Center. Exhibit prices are $5 each day or $7 for both days. The Tai Ji presentation starts at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.Tickets are $45.
