John Uyeno said the East Kauai Lions Club is trying to collect 50,000 used eyeglasses for shipping to Bagio City Host Lions Club, a sister club in the Philippines.
John, Donald Nagamine, Steve Saiki (he’s the committee chair), Roy Nishida (and where was he when the Maui dancers were performing?) and Steve Fujii (he said the dogs bark at him when they walk) were busy collecting used and unneeded eyewear for the effort. People who have some and missed the Saturday collection can still drop them off at Longs Drugs, or at some of the optometrists so the Lions can meet its goal.
Used glasses were just part of the excitement at the mall Saturday as Coach Ramon Semblante (was Jasmine there?) was hosting a car wash to get his soccer team over to Oahu for the President’s Cup tournament in February, and congratulations to Gloria Shimizu for all her efforts at hosting the USA-Japan Minyo Cultural Exchance Festival here on Kauai.
Todd Takahashi (you should have seen his neice Keala perform “Rokyoku Ichidai!”) said this is the first time all the events were being hosted in one site, and Jim Jung was getting excited about the Americorps group who will visit the Kauai Museum today where they get to learn about Cleopetra’s Barge.
