Letters for Jan. 23, 2015
Potholes
North Shore of Kauai, the beauty
you behold
Lush green mountains, ocean so
blue and sunsets of gold
Locals and tourists travel to this
place
This place full of beauty, this
place full of grace
Making our way to the beaches,
car loaded down
Turn in to the beach, smiles
turned to frowns
The car bouncing and jerking in
every beach access around
Deep holes full of water, hoping
our tires touch ground
Trying to figure out who’s in
charge of this mess
Why can’t they grade this beach
area they call beach access?
Potholes so many your car is
getting confused
What did I do wrong to have to
pay such dues?
It makes no difference where
you drive
From Hanalei to Kee your car will
pitch and jive
Mother Nature is the culprit,
that’s how potholes appear
But the county and the state can
fix them with their tools and their
gear
So help us out a little can you do
this for us?
Can you make the sand
smoother for our cars, trucks and
maybe a small bus
We pay our taxes for things just
like this
I thought that’s how it works, is it
something I missed?
So come to our aid, can you help
us out just a bit
I’m tired of my car taking all the
hits.

Be wary of chemical companies
I attended the 2016 Food Justice Summit on Jan. 17 at Kauai Community College. Five countries were represented: Nigeria, Malaysia, Switzerland, Mexico and Kauai for the United States.
I’ll make a long story short. What all the information came down to was, in my opinion, If you can’t get rid of agrobusiness “chemical companies,” don’t re-elect your politicians.
