LIHUE — The trial for the man connected to an incident at Hanalei Pier last year has been pushed back.
Iona Keola Loi, 20, appeared in the Fifth Circuit Court before Chief Judge Randal Valenciano. His trial was set to begin Monday. It was pushed back to May 2 by motion from his attorney due to “an on-going investigation.”
Loi is accused of assault in a dispute involving California eight graders and two chaperones last May at the Hanalei Pier. The reported attack drew the attention of Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. who apologized to the visitors.
Loi is charged with two counts of assault in the third degree, harassment and criminal property damage in the third degree.
