This is the time of the year to repenish, rejuvenate and renew, said Julie Kaneali‘i, a coordinator of Ka Moku O Manokalanipo Pa‘ani Makahiki, or more commonly known as the Makahiki Games.
“This is a celebration of people being together, and as part of the celebration of people, we have friendly competitive games,” Kaneali‘i said. “We stop war and hard work and come together.”
Ka Moku O Manokalanipo Pa‘ani Makahiki is one of the major events hosted by ‘Ahahui Kiwila Hawaii O Moikeha, one of the newest chartered Hawaiian Civic Club on Kauai. Kaneali‘i said the organization also participates in the Prince Kuhio Day at the Kauai Museum, and the annual May Day by the Bay which will be held at the Waioli Park in Hanalei on May 14 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. featuring hula, music, and crafts.
