KALALAU — Three passengers from a Blue Hawaiian tour helicopter that made a hard landing on Kalalau Beach on Sunday afternoon have been transferred to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu in guarded condition, according to Faith Campbell, marketing manager at Wilcox Health.
Guarded condition means the outcome of the patient’s condition is unclear.
According to Kauai County’s public information officer Mary Daubert, one of the victims taken to Oahu was female and sustained serious back injuries.
Blue Hawaiian did not return phone calls before deadline Monday to explain what caused their tour helicopter to land on the edge of the Na Pali Coast about 3 p.m. Sunday.
A news release from the Kauai Fire Department said Air-1, with Rescue 3 aboard, Station 1, and Station 8, along with medics responded to the call. Rescue 3 flew the five victims to Princeville Airport and medics transported the victims from there via ambulances to Wilcox Hospital.
Another Blue Hawaiian helicopter flew to the scene and transported the pilot and another passenger, who were both unharmed, to the Lihue Airport, according to the release.
“The helicopter pilot and passengers involved in yesterday’s hard landing in Kalalau were brought to Wilcox Memorial Hospital where they were assessed and treated,” Campbell said on Monday afternoon. “The pilot and three other passengers were all in stable condition and/or discharged.”
