In what may be remembered as the “Mud Bowl” of golf, a number of determined North Shore women played on through rain, wind, mud and occasional sun for three days in December to once again crown the winner of the President’s Cup annual tournament.
On Dec. 15, the final day of play, found Gail Naylor and Carolyn Russell, both of Princeville, neck and neck. By the 16th hole with a shot out of the sand, Russell clinched her win with a par. Humble as always, Russell claims that her win was helped by the poor luck of Naylor who found the sand to be her undoing.
Carolyn Russell was defending her first place win of 2014. Naylor has also been a President’s Cup winner in the past. Both ladies were celebrated at the groups annual Christmas luncheon following the final day of tournament play.
The Princeville Women’s golf club plays each Tuesday at the Makai Course and occasionally at other courses around the island. Play is open to any and all from anywhere on the Island and of any ability levels. New membership is always encouraged and annual dues are low. A monthly lunch meeting, several social events and two tournaments make up the annual calendar.
