Illegal pyrotechnics are disturbing, dangerous
Wailua Houselots was not the same last night as morons’ proliferated illegal fireworks throughout this community which sounded like a war zone. How are these insensitive people able to purchase illegal pyrotechnics, while oblivious to the damage they cause? One such explosive was planted at the edge of our property several times, and in the drainage ditch across from us.
Again, how are people able to purchase these like-bombs, and where are the components used to make these lethal vivacities coming from? Those individuals need to be held accountable as it is well-known that, while breaking the law, they are actually making a great deal of money for producing reckless explosives.
I, for one, would want a temporary ban placed on all fireworks until the culprits are caught, lawfully charged and prosecuted because if they can be bringing in the mechanisms for such volatile products, the next step would be creating actual bombs.
Within the confines of my “safe” home was a pregnant girl who ended up in Wilcox and another who suffers from grand mal seizures and needed additional care to make sure another seizure would not leave her profoundly incapacitated as a result of these unlawful explosives. And, let’s not overlook the pets and other animals unaccustomed to hearing the unsettling pandemonium.

Don’t make Lihue Airport look like all others
In reply to the Jan. 3 article on airport funding in Lihue, I offer the following comments as a frequent visitor to Kauai: The moment we arrive at the Lihue Airport, we breathe deeply and a smile crosses our faces! We don’t need anything else at the airport — we love it just the way it is.
Perhaps if Mr. Neves wants an airport just like “any other airport in America,” he should just go work at one of those other airports. One of the disappointing things in America is how generic everything looks — from Seattle to Miami to New York, you find Old Navy, Home Depot, Panera Bread. Every city is starting to look the same — don’t let that happen in Lihue/Kauai.
OK, you can add WiFi, but that’s all!
