LIHUE — Muralist Seth Womble is halfway through completing the illusion of being in a wave in a space located between the Kauai Beer Company and the neighboring Masa’s Sushi in Lihue.
“We always felt the hallway was a second-class citizen to the brewery,” Larry Feinstein said. “Creating the Wave Room gives the space its own importance.”
The space is used as overflow dining and gathering area.
“I have been in here shortly after they started the Truck Stop Thursday,” Womble said. “The first time I came in here — whoa! White walls, lights, it was claustrophobic.”
Jim Guerber, owner of The Kauai Beer Company, said they all knew they wanted something big for that small room, and after toying with some ideas with Womble, finally decided on the Wave Room, which they anticipate being completed soon.
“At 50 feet long, eight feet high, and 10 feet wide, this will be the world’s first three-dimensional wave room mural painting,” Womble said. “
Womble is no stranger to this type of work after earlier being asked to create a separation wall for the Kapaa Businessmen Association’s First Saturday event. Womble recruited students eager to learn mural concepts to get this job done.
He later followed this project with a mural in a yet-to-open space in the former Kojima Store building in Kapaa.
