LIHUE — Toys have been flowing into the coffers of Toys for Tots, said Norberto Garcia, of the United States Marine Corps League and program coordinator on Kauai. But more toys are needed.
The Toys for Tots program is shy of last year’s collection. A group of volunteers will be at Kauai Veterans Center from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today so people can donate to the cause.
Monday, Chantal Zarbaugh, representing Kukui Grove Center, presented Garcia with a check for $1,000 on behalf of the shopping center. Kukui Grove, in partnership with The KQNG Radio Group and King Auto Center, spearheaded the Toys for Tots campaign which amounted to more than $5,000.
“We’ve been shopping all morning at Kmart,” said Jose Aguayo, manager at King Auto Center. “It’s hard work. We don’t know what to get for some of the kids.”
Zarbaugh said shoppers dropped off toys throughout the weekend.
