Adults and children could use some comfort and cheer this Christmas.
Kit is a sweet and wild 6-year-old girl. She has been through a lot in her young life and doesn’t quite know how to conform to regular standards in society, which makes her a lot of laughs and quite fun to play games with.
She loves board games and would die for a bicycle. She loves her sisters and would love anything they can play with together. Kit hardly has any clothes, so she could use some if you have extra. School and art supplies are her favorite things to spend time with after school and on the weekends. Play-Doh, clay, anything that she can manipulate with her hands, keeps her entertained as she needs a creative channel for all her energy.
Cindi has spent much of her life moving from house to house, rarely staying for more than six months in one place. Cindi often shares a bed and room with her family members. Due to parental drug use, domestic violence and unsuitable living situations, her education and peer relationships have suffered. She is starting to learn how to relax and do things she enjoys, but due to ongoing conflicts with others, she struggles to maintain involvement in pro-social activities.
She loves spending time outdoors, going to the beach and surfing. Since she has moved into foster care, her home life has improved, but she would greatly benefit from being able to surf without having to borrow or rent a board. She would love to have her own surfboard or bodyboard and set of fins, a skateboard, or anything else that would help her get outdoors more.
If you would like to help out those in need this holiday season, please contribute to The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund.
Donations are distributed by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at appropriate businesses to make wishes come true. Each donated dollar is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrators collecting salaries, just a bunch of volunteers with hearts of gold.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share stories about families and individuals facing challenges and who would appreciate help.
Only monetary donations are accepted. Checks, payable to Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, can be mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihue, HI 96766. Info: 822-9882.
