LIHUE — Pat Norman of Lihue was adding stamps to about a dozen Christmas cards Saturday at the Lihue Post Office.
“I’m mailing it to everyone. All late,” Norman said. “I hope they’ll get it before Christmas.”
They should.
If you want to get gifts to friends by Christmas, the Postal Service suggests you mail your packages Priority Express Mail by Monday, which is expected to be the busiest mailing day of the year.
The Lihue Post Office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday — and you should expect long lines.
“It has been very busy, the line’s been out the door,” Lihue Post Office employee Tiffany Jeffries said Saturday.
Since the busiest shopping times are around the holiday season, that means more people are shipping packages, too.
According to the Postal Service, the number of mail pieces processed daily during the holiday season averages around 506 to 536 million pieces but can go up to 612 million pieces.
James Adamos was holding boxes and bags of gifts on Saturday bound for the Mainland.
“These are a last-minute Christmas rush for family,” he said.
