Brandy and Ken are living in a tent on the beach with five children. Because of their big family, it is difficult to find a house. The family is homeless and needs a place to stay as soon as possible. Both Brandy and Ken work part time — it has been difficult to find full-time employment.
The parents are not asking for anything for themselves, other than jobs, but would love to have presents for their children on Christmas morning.
They are qualified for any position and are open to any employment. Kenny (13) and Nina (15) would both like some clothes, a sweatshirt (hoodie) and shoes. Puanani (10), Breanna (9) and Kiani (8) would enjoy having toys.
The community has a chance to help families like these through the The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund. Donations are distributed by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at appropriate businesses to make wishes come true.
Each donated dollar is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrators collecting salaries, just a bunch of volunteers with hearts of gold.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share stories about families and individuals facing challenges and who would appreciate help.
Only monetary donations are accepted. Checks, payable to Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, can be mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihue, HI 96766. Info: 822-9882.
