KAPAA — This is the first year that David Jensen and Josiah Ancheta have been shepherds in Crossroads Christian Fellowship’s live nativity production. Both loved it.
“I wanted to do it so I could spread the word of God,” said Ancheta.
They were two of four shepherds who received an angelic message during one of the scenes in the church’s reenactment of the Nativity story on Friday. Six stations of actors are set up along the road that curves in front of its property, so you can drive in a loop and see different stages of the Nativity scene as you cruise through.
There is an angel on high, Roman soldiers collecting taxes from citizens and Mary and Joseph being turned away at the inn.
“When people drive or walk through, they act the part of the scripture out,” said Malie De La Cruz, who coordinated the actors.
The idea was sparked because fewer people were lighting their houses for the holiday season.
Pastor Bob Hallman was speaking about when he was a kid, and he and his family used to go look at lights on homes during Christmas, De La Cruz said.
“He wanted to bless the community and do a light scenery, and at the same time, tell the birth story of Jesus,” she said.
After you’ve made your way through Bethlehem, there are activities for kids, performances by a children’s choir, hula and refreshments.
“There’s stuff to do under the tent,” De La Cruz said.
The living Nativity will grace the church’s lawn 6-8 tonight.
