LIHUE — Barbara Green, president of the Kauai Filipino Women’s Club, said her mother was a dialysis patient for more than three years.
“She always had her blanket when she came in for the process, which took more than three hours,” Green said. “The blanket was a comfort to her during the long treatment.”
Her memory of her mother’s experience at the Fresenius Liberty Dialysis Kauai led to the gift of blankets for clients of the dialysis center on Elua Street in Lihue. Sarah Cera said the organization picked up the blankets and personalized them for each of the more than 60 clients before wrapping them for the holidays.
“It gets pretty cold in here,” said Allison Stephenson of Liberty Dialysis. “The blankets will definitely help the patients during the process, which can take up to five hours. Blankets are very comforting.”
Green said the Kauai Filipino Women’s Club also took into consideration that smaller medical facilities tend to be overlooked during the holidays, and they wanted to make sure everyone is appreciated — especially during the holidays.
The Kauai Filipino Women’s Club will also co-host the annual Jose Rizal Day celebration with the Kauai Filipino Community Council on Dec. 27 at the Rizal statue on the lawn of the Historic County Building at 4 p.m.
Following the Rizal Day observance, the Kauai Filipino Community Council will host its Christmas party at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall.
