LIHUE —A Koloa man accused of assaulting another man at Kalapaki Joe’s Kukui Grove earlier this week was also injured during the fight.
Nicholas Keola Char, 34, was arrested at 1:33 a.m. Tuesday at the Wilcox Emergency Room after being treated for injuries to his ribs and lacerations to his head, according to a police report.
He had been drinking and was seen taunting patrons and punching windows, according to police. Police said Char was removed from the restaurant, but returned and punched the victim.
The 30-year-old victim of Kapaa was rushed to Wilcox and was later medevac’d to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu with life-threatening injuries.
A representative at Queen’s did not immediately confirm the victim was in the hospital, but a check into the system revealed that the victim was still in the intensive care unit.
Char was arrested on first-degree assault, but was released after posting $20,000 bail. He is expected to appear in court on Jan. 20.
An investigation continues.
