WAILUA — Diana and her husband Christopher Hayden thought they heard explosions in Wailua Wednesday night.
They heard a sound late that night but couldn’t quite place it. Several of their neighbors heard it, too, and asked them what they thought it could be. The Haydens didn’t have an answer.
But Kauai police said there were no explosions. The sound was a car crash.
An Anahola man was driving south on Puuopae Road when his vehicle ran straight into the concrete wall of the Puuopae Bridge, said county spokeswoman Sarah Blane.
Police were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. to Wailua Homesteads. The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by medical personnel, Blane said.
The Puuopae Bridge in Wailua Homesteads is closed until further notice due to safety concerns.
