LIHUE — Hawaiian Airlines will increase travel options between Kauai and California this summer.
Daily service between Lihue and Oakland and Los Angeles will take place during the peak travel months from mid-June through September.
Additionally, Hawaiian will reinstate non-stop service to Kona from both Oakland and Los Angeles.
“Next summer will mark Hawaiian’s third year offering more options to our guests during the peak travel period,” said Peter Ingram, Hawaiian Airlines executive vice president and chief commercial officer. “Thanks to the robust demand from West Coast travelers, we are pleased to build on the success of our seasonal routes by introducing daily service from California to Kauai.”
Beginning May 27, the airline will offer three-times weekly service from Oakland to both Lihue and Kona, four-times weekly service from Los Angeles to Kona, and increase its regular nonstop service between Los Angeles and Lihue to four-times weekly. From mid-June through Sept. 5, service to Kauai from both Oakland and Los Angeles will be offered daily.
With the addition of both seasonal services, both Lihue Airport and Kona International Airport will have a Hawaiian Airlines wide-body aircraft arriving every day of the week next summer.
The company, which operates an average of 17 round-trip flights daily servicing Kauai, has earned $144.7 million so far in 2015, more than double its profit over the same period in 2014. Analysts surveyed by FactSet expect 2016 net income to be 8 percent higher than 2015 earnings.
Hawaiian Airlines has been criticized by some locals for what they say are high, interisland airfares. Hawaiian officials have said their prices are fair and based on the market.
