LIHUE — Calvary Chapel Lihue is presenting a musical drama this Christmas season and invites the community to come and enjoy “The Candle in the Window,” a script based on the book by Grace Johnson.
With a redesigned set and characters and under the direction of Sophia Ross, this play will take you to a small town in Germany at the turn of the century to meet a widowed cobbler who, with the help of some fascinating visitors, rediscovers the meaning and joy of Christmas.
The role of the cobbler is played by Lance Kerwin, an actor known primarily for roles during his childhood and teen years in the 1970s. He played the starring role in the TV series, “James at 15,” and the made-for-TV film, “The Loneliest Runner.” The supporting cast is made of actors and singers of various ages, all local Kauai residents in roles as Christmas carolers, an orphan, a Baroness, a beggar, angels, and others.
Performances are scheduled Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. at Calvary Chapel Lihue, 3-3100 Kuhio Hwy., across from the McDonald’s in Lihue. There will be a Christmas dessert potluck afterward in the church’s youth center. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the open seating is limited each night. Tickets are available for donation of $5 each and are available at the Word4word Resource Center, the Bandwagon Music Center, Scotty’s Music in Lihue, and Kauai Music & Sound in Kapaa.
Proceeds will support three ministries on Kauai: U-Turn for Christ Kauai, Operation Christmas Child Kauai, and Celebrate Recovery Kauai. Representatives of these ministries will be available to present information about their ministries.
For more information or to order tickets, call the church office, 245-9673.
