Thanks for trees; no thanks for red tape
I would like to thank the East Kauai Lions Club for planting six trees in the Eastside Happy Dog Playground in Wailua Homesteads Park.
They would have planted them much sooner but they were waiting on paperwork from the county. Really — to plant trees? That is exactly what is wrong with our county government.

US population not mistaken for an overcrowded bar
Mr Rosen, if you would allow a rebuttal (to your letter, TGI, Dec. 1).
What has given you any impression that I am a male, why would you assume so? I do agree with you that sending any potential citizens of the US to the most remote state in the union are not the best use of the taxpayers dollars, when communities on the Mainland may be better suited to the well-being of refugees. While Hawaii is not the best choice for any refugees, speaking strictly from a feudatory standpoint, the fact that Gov. Ige has welcomed them here does leaps and bounds for the state international and diplomatically speaking.
Mr. Rosen, you compare the present population of the U.S. to an overcrowded bar, while I will put aside the obvious connotations. What happens if all of those people in the overcrowded bar were educated and understood where the fire exits and how the emergency procedures worked? Could they not work together to maybe understand each other, allow the people that needed to be present be present and those that needed to come in out of the rain come in out of the rain?
While Phillips County, Montana, with its 5,212 square miles and a population density of less than one person for each of the those square miles, might be known to your average stateless person seeking a better life in this country, I’m sure nobody would mistake it for an overcrowded bar.
