LIHUE — Police arrested a 33-year-old Eleele man Sunday afternoon in connection with the stabbing of his pregnant girlfriend.
Christopher Cruz was taken into custody Sunday night on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, according to officials.
According to police, an argument broke out between the couple who were reportedly seen by multiple witnesses seated in their gold Lexus sedan in a parking lot near Ace Hardware.
Suddenly, the man began stabbing the 18-year-old woman, officials said.
The Kekaha woman ran from the vehicle and the suspect fled on foot. Upon officers’ arrival, the female victim was located near the entrance to Big Save where she was being tended to by bystanders. The woman, according to witnesses, was laying on the ground, bleeding from stab wounds.
She suffered a single puncture wound to her stomach and was transported in stable condition to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
Police located the suspect shortly after the incident at a home on Ulupua Road in Eleele.
Cruz has not been formally charged but charges may be coming as early as Wednesday or Thursday, said Prosecuting Attorney Justin Kollar.
Cruz is being held on $100,000 bail.
The case remains under police investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Chris Jenkins at 241-1680
