Parade ruined by rude keiki
The Lights of Rice parade was spectacular except for kids waving those light-sabre things and hitting elders in the head, then not watching where they were going and stomping on already-swollen feet.
Is there some way vendors could stop selling things that small children can use as weapons? The kids love them but those around them, like my husband, who was hit on the head multiple times and then was told by the child’s father, “It’s a parade!” don’t find them fun and in fact a beautiful parade was ruined for him. And he could hardly walk the block to our car because of the pain in his foot.
I do commend the committee who put in all that hard work, the volunteers who gave of their time so freely and those who handed out candy and treats instead of throwing them. I hope to go to next year’s parade but may be going alone.

Here’s your chance to make difference on property taxes
To all property owners on Kauai,
We are long-time owners in Hanalei. In the last four years, our property taxes have increased a horrific 473 percent!
If you are a homeowner, I’m sure you have a similar story.
Gary Hooser has proposed a bill that would reinstate the property tax cap that was cancelled in 2013. If this Bill No. 2606 is passed, any future tax increase would be limited to the most recent cost-of-living increase reflected by the Consumer Price Index. It would protect us all from exorbitant, unexpected tax increases from year to year.
The bill is being considered by the committee on Wednesday, Dec. 9. If you are in support of the bill, make your voice heard! Write a letter and send it via email to: counciltestimony@kauai.gov by Wednesday.
