More on traffic and transportation
For the county to hire a planner for our transportation department was a good move. It was like getting a professional, high-cost consultant firm full-time without all the big payouts we normally see that would gives us a typical dead-end to solutions to our traffic problems.
I see Mr. Steinmetz, our new traffic planner, with his vision will create better management to our traffic plans as well as easing the “Kapaa crawl” mentality on our roads. My hat goes off to Mr. Steinmetz with a vision that solutions can happen with a mentality of creative thinking and planning and not the typical politicians who say without the big money there is no solution.
Let’s hope our County Council can see his vision is the alternative to “business as usual,” with not getting things done.

Schools need air conditioning
The heat makes us feel very cranky. Hurricane season drives everyone crazy with all the humidity.
During school, it is hard for students to concentrate because the heat is bothering us too much. What makes it worse is that not all the classrooms have fans or air conditioning. It gets really hot with lots of people in the classroom and the air doesn’t go throughout the whole room. Some do and some don’t.
It isn’t fair that we have to learn in a hot environment. It is a lot of money to put air conditioners in all the classrooms, but in the end, it would be money well spent. All the teachers want is their students to succeed. If they are in a proper place to learn with no distractions, the students will do a lot better with their education. The students will have a better time at school and their grades will improve because they are more focused.
