Missiouri tough on drivers who refuse breath test
I am a retired attorney from St. Louis, Missouri, now living in Kauai. Many driving while intoxicated cases may have to be thrown out in the state of Hawaii because of the present law which states that the penalty for not taking a breath test is you can go to jail for up to 30 days. The Supreme Court of Hawaii has ruled that this criminalizes an arrestee’s refusal to submit to breath or blood alcohol testing and should not result in criminal jail penalties.
In Missouri, failure to take an intoximeter test or a blood test results in a one-year suspension of a person’s license. Driving cars on our roads is a privilege, not a right. If someone drives drunk and refuses the breath test he will be suspended from driving for a year.

Can’t even say ‘Holiday’ anymore
We used to have Merry Christmas. This seemed to favor one religion over others, so we changed to Happy Holidays. I consider myself a questioning Christian and can understand this. After all, we are a multi-cultural and multi-religion nation. There are Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindu, and several other religions in America. The spirit of Christmas should encompass people of all faiths and Happy Holidays seems to do that so I can accept the fact that businesses may say Happy Holidays rather than Merry Christmas.
But some businesses may have gone a bit too far. The company I work for does not have a Christmas Party. We do not have a Holiday Party. We now have an End of Year Celebration. I know we don’t want to offend anyone, but still, when did “Holiday” become not politically incorrect?
