POIPU — A search is on for a Kauai Humane Society dog missing since Monday after getting loose and running away while out on a field trip in the Poipu area.
The 4-year-old Rottweiler named Rafael was recently spotted running from Koloa toward Poipu on Alakinoike Street. He was wearing an “Adopt Me” vest, had a collar on and a leash was attached to it.
A running group and others have been checking the area for Rafael daily since he got away from a visitor who was walking him near the Sheraton, stumbled and dropped the leash. The dog bolted and didn’t return.
Rafael is considered gentle but is shy.
The field trip program has been popular. It allows visitors and residents to take shelter dogs out for a day, which gives the dog a break from the shelter and exposes it to possible new owners.
Anyone who sees Rafael is asked to call KHS at 632-0610 or Tracy, 639-3399.
