Katie and Angela have never been apart and were recently placed in separate foster homes.
Katie is 3 years old. She is severely developmentally delayed and pending assessment will likely be diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
Angela is 5 years old. She is also developmentally delayed, likely due to only recently enrolled being in school for the first time. They would benefit from interactive educational materials, books, puzzles.
Then, there’s the struggles faced by Kalei, a single mom with an 18-month-old son. She recently bought a used car that broke down two weeks later. She is financially strapped, even though she works two jobs. Kalei is in need of household items like a dining room table and couch.
The two girls and this single mom are just a few of those who will benefit from The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund that is now in full swing.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share daily, front page stories about families (we don’t use their real names) facing challenges and who would appreciate a little help.
The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund is an avenue for everyone to provide that assistance.
Donations are distributed by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at appropriate businesses to make wishes come true.
Each donated dollar is accounted for and carefully recorded. There are no administrators collecting salaries. The money goes directly to provide gift certificates to those who need them for gifts and groceries.
Anyone making a donation of $50 or more can have their picture presenting the check published in TGI. If you hold a fundraiser for the Christmas Fund, let us know and we’ll spread the word.
Only monetary donations are accepted. Checks, payable to Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, can be mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihue, HI., 96766.
