LIHUE — A grand jury last week indicted six individuals November.
Grand juries on Kauai are scheduled once a month and are based on the cases the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office wants to present to the jurors based on a number of factors including convenience and witness scheduling.
Mildred Lauhala Olanaolan faces a five-count indictment: Promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree, drug paraphernalia, ownership or possession of ammunition prohibited, place to keep ammunition, and promoting a detrimental drug.
She is on HOPE probation and is in custody. Her bail was set at $5,000. Prior offenses include promoting a dangerous drug from earlier this year.
Dante Aranda, 59, of Lihue faces a five-count indictment of four felonies and one misdemeanor: terroristic threatening in the first degree, ownership and possession of gun prohibited, ownership and possession of ammunition prohibited, possession of prohibited weapons, and possession of prohibited ammunition.
Prior convictions include operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant in 2009, driving under the influence in 1993, negligent homicide in the first degree in 1987, assault in the third degree in 1986.
His bail was set at $50,000.
Gilbert Balai Jr., 34, faces a two-count indictment, both felony counts: terroristic threatening in the second degree.
Prior convictions include assault in the second degree in 2006, theft in the third degree in 2006, abuse of family in 2006, criminal property damage in 2006, criminal property damage in 2006, three counts of attempted police assault in 2006 and terror threats in the second degree in 2004.
His bail was set at $20,000.
Darren White, 46, faces a two-count indictment, both felony counts for allegedly being caught at the Coco Palms while out on bail: burglary in the second degree and attempted theft of copper.
Prior convictions include trespassing in 2013 and assault in the third degree and contempt of court.
His bail was set at $100,000. The state also asked for a stay away order from the Coco Palms.
Uriah Calcagno, 30, faces a four-count indictment, one felony count in which the state alleges he was waving a four-foot stick and damaged his mother’s vehicle: terroristic threatening in the first degree, criminal property damage in the third degree, criminal property damage in the fourth degree and promoting a detrimental drug in the third degree.
Prior convictions include terror threat in the second degree in 2004 and three counts of assault in 2011.
He is in custody and his bail was set at $3,000.
Noah Smazik, 33, faces a three-count indictment, one felony count in which the defendant allegedly killed a domesticated pig named Squig: Cruelty to animals, criminal trespass in the second degree, and criminal property damage in the fourth degree.
Prior convictions include terror threat in the second degree in 2008, failure to appear in 2004, criminal contempt of court in 2004, theft in the fourth degree in 2004, criminal contempt of court in 2002, resisting arrest in 2003, and theft in the second degree in 2003.
His bail was set at $5,000.
