LIHUE — Women were celebrated at the YWCA of Kauai’s third annual Pink Sunday, an event geared toward showcasing the talents of women and women in business.
“Pink Sunday showcases women, and the businesses they’re in, and how they put back into the community,” said Rozetta Williams, the grant development manager for the YWCA. “This is exciting because of the turnout and the people’s support for women. This is our third year hosting the event. It does get better, each year.”
More than 75 vendors were on hand at the Kauai Veterans Center, including Janice Bond, who was registering voters. Bond had done the same Saturday at the Kauai Island Crafters Fair, also held at the Veterans Center, and said she was having a good day signing up voters.
“This is a good day,” Bond said.
Stel Pimental was another vendor who had also been at the Saturday event, just relocating her table of crafts to a different spot on Sunday.
“Edwin Vea loves the arrangements,” Pimental said. “He was over there, admiring and coo-ing ‘I love this.’”
The crew from Tire Warehouse went the full mile, exchanging their blue T-shirts for pink while doing a tire changing demonstration to open the day.
“They’re all here with their pink shirts,” said Katie Beer. “Sharron Weber would be proud of them. They did the demonstration in their pink shirts.”
Other events included visits with the Healing Horses’ miniature ponies, face painting, arts and crafts, dance performances by KUGA, a fashion show featuring designers participating in Pink Sunday, taiko, food trucks — including Aina Cafe, Rainbeau Jo’s and a Thai Food vehicle — as well as dog training by the Kauai Humane Society, a self-defense exhibition and more.
