LIHUE — Genki Sushi is re-opening at Kukui Grove Center following a $1 million, four-month renovation project.
“They are a great tenant partner and one of our top performing restaurants,” said Wade Lord, Kukui Grove Center general manager. “Our customers have missed them, and they will appreciate the additional seating and upgrades that Genki has added.”
Mary Hansen, chief administrative officer for Genki Sushi USA, Inc., said the renovation work did not add any square footage under roof, but simply stated, resulted in a new store.
“The Kaiten sushi delivery system is brand new,” Hansen said. “Kaiten is always testing and improving their delivery systems, and the one in Kukui Grove Center is the latest model.”
Kaiten translates to mean revolving and is the heart of the belt delivery system which delivers plates of sushi, including the unique hot dog sushi, past the customers who are seated in booths, or on the counter bar.
Equipment in the kitchen is also new with the latest technology, and customers have more room to enjoy the sushi because the renovation provides 80 seats compared with the 50 available when the store opened in 2005.
When the doors open on Friday, Genki Sushi USA, headquartered on Oahu, will have 14 store in Hawaii — 10 on Oahu, the latest one opening in Pearl Ridge Shopping Center, recently; one on Kauai, two on Maui, and one in Kona on the Big Island.
The Genki Sushi at Kukui Grove will have Carmen Saki, a veteran of nine years with Genki Sushi, working with a staff of 48 employees.
“We are committed to improving the quality of everything we do,” Hansen said.
The Genki Sushi store will be open Sundays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
