LIHUE — Keoni Dasalia, Luka Lasky-Martin and Jacson Street netted goals to lead the No. 2 seed Kapaa Lions Boys Under 8 soccer team to its 3-1 win over the No. 3 Lihue Cougars BU8 on Sunday during the playoffs for the Kauai Soccer Association fall season at the North Vidinha fields.
Tykei Chang-Wo found the goal for the Cougars.
The results of this Under 8 division playoff game set the stage for the title matches Sunday when the Kapaa Lions BU8 face off against the top seed Futsal Kauai BU8 who enjoyed an opening round bye. The division title game will start at 10 a.m. at the North Vidinha fields. There is no admission for any of the matches.
On the girls arena, Na Hoku GU8 will face Futsal Kauai GU8 for the division title starting at 11 a.m.
Division 10
Mia Kaneakua-Inoshita netted two goals and got help from Nohea Brandenburg, Julia Durocher, Rhea Furtado, and Makena Kupihea with a goal each to lead the top seed Futsal Kauai GU10 to its 6-2 win over the No. 4 Kalaheo Fire GU10 to set the stage for this division final. Shania Kelley and Coral Turner each scored for the Fire GU10.
The Futsal Kauai GU10 sets the stage for Sunday’s division title when the girls face off against the No. 3 Team Onipaa GU10 who claimed a 2-0 win over the No. 2 North Shore Futsal Club GU10 behind goals from Anbrieal Kanahele and Kaena Rita starting at 10 a.m.
“I heard it was a day of upsets,” said Jane Garma, the KSA scorekeeper. “It doesn’t matter what your seed is, playoffs is anyone’s game. I heard it was great play all around.”
The upsets overflowed onto the boys’ field when the No. 3 Hanalei Futsal Club BU10 was led by two goals from Curren Pope and a net from Duke DePasquale in its 3-0 shutout over the No. 2 Lihue Arsenal BU10.
With the win, Hanalei FC BU10 will square off against the No. 4 Lihue Galaxy BU10 who was a 1-0 winner over top seed Futsal Kauai BU10 behind a goal from Caleb Calderon. The division title match will kick off starting at 11 a.m.
Division 12
More upsets took place in the Division 12 playoffs as Jasmine Semblante scored the sole goal to lead the No. 4 Team Onipaa GU12 to a 1-0 win over the top seed Lihue Cougars GU12. The win sets the stage for the showdown against No. 3 Futsal Kauai GU12 who was a 1-0 winner over the No. 2 NSFC GU12 behind the net by Tierra Washington.
Mason Hunt found the net twice to lead the top seed Futsal Kauai BU12 to a 3-0 win over No. 4 Lihue Arsenal Red BU12, getting help from Hanalei Wann-Keliihoomalu who scored the insurance goal. The win sets the stage for the Boys Under 12 title match against No. 3 Team Onipaa BU12 who went to Jasmine’s foot for its 1-0 edge over the No. 2 NSFC CU12.
Division 14, 16
Sheila Blum, Hanna Collins-Doijode, and Aretha Matsushima got goals to lead the No. 3 Kauai Pride GU16 to a 3-2 edge over the No. 2 Team Onipaa GU17 (two goals by Emma Kelekoma) to set the stage for the girls’ showdown. Kauai Pride will square off against the Rush GU17 who enjoyed a bye in the playoffs.
The No. 2 Lihue Cougars GU14 pocketed a 5-0 win over No. 3 Team Onipaa GU14 behind the five goals from Starlyn Soares. The Cougars GU14 will square off against the top seed Futsal Kauai GU14 who enjoyed a bye during the playoffs.
Nicholas Semblante scored seven goals to lead the top seed Team Onipaa BU14 to a 13-1 victory over No. 4 Team Onipaa BU13 to set the stage for the final division title matchup. Ka Alae ula Miike and Whitney Lugo each went to the net twice and Conor Hunt rounded out the Team Onipaa BU14 win. Carlos Lang scored to keep Team Onipaa BU13 from being shut out.
Keanue Brown has a hat trick, or three goals scored, to lead the No. 2 NSFC BU14 to 7-5 edge over No. 3 Keahi BU14, which was led by Shayden Duldulao scoring four times and Wailea Edwards finding the net once. Following Brown’s lead, Kawai Beeby scored twice with Nahoa Davis and Kellen O’Rourke adding a goal each for NSFC BU14.
The title showdown will feature the top seed Team Onipaa BU14 squaring off against the No. 2 NSFC BU14 at 11:30 a.m.
