The Kauai High School cheer squad finished in seventh place Saturday during the Zippy’s Hawaii High School Athletic Association Cheerleading state championships on Oahu.
Performing under the Medium category, the Red Raider cheer squad under the direction of coach Carrie Nakaahiki-Young collected 296.50 competition points, just a point shy of sixth place which was filled by the Kalaheo High School team with 297.50 points. Campbell High School filled in eighth place with 292 points.
Radford High School, whose football team earlier edged out Konawaena 48-46 to advance to the state championship game against Kapaa, performed similarly at the Neal Blaisdell Arena, taking the Medium division title by edging past Kamehameha Schools-Maui with 336.50 points. The Valley Isle Warrior cheer squad finished with 336.25 points with Waiakea from the Big Island filling in third place with 317.50 points.
Moanalua High School topped the Large Division with 343.75 points over Mililani (335.00 points), Kaiser (330.0 points) and Pearl City (306.25 points).
