Kauai kids with a love for cars have a chance to win an iPad mini 4, as well as cash, in a dream car drawing contest sponsored by Toyota.
The contest asks kids, 15 years old or younger, to submit hand-drawn illustrations of the car of their dreams, incorporating three themes: environmentally friendly cars, cars that promote world peace, and concept cars that encourage helping others.
Students will compete in three age categories and the winner in each category will receive an iPad mini 4. Second and third place finishers will each win $100.
“Last year, we received more than 800 entries from local students,” said Glenn Inouye, Toyota Hawaii senior vice president. “This year, we hope to receive 1,000 entries, as we invite all local keiki to share ideas about the future of transportation by drawing their dream cars. We at Toyota Hawaii believe in nurturing the creativity of the next generation of great inventors, thinkers and dreamers.”
Kauai’s Emma Thain won a trip last year to Japan. The Koloa home-schooled youth was one of four Best Finalists Award winners among more than 660,000 entrants.
Her drawing was of a neighborhood with her version of a Toyota “bus” complete with multiple mechanical arms, to be used for installing plumbing, electrical and dry wall in homes with speed and ease.
The contest closes on Jan. 15. Eligible entries will be entered into the People’s Choice Competition where folks can vote for their favorite entries from Feb. 15-28 on Facebook. The most popular entries will go to a local round of judging where they will be pared to nine finalists.
Those nine entries will be submitted to the Toyota Dream Car World Contest in Japan. Anyone from Hawaii who is selected for medals or special awards at the World Contest will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Japan to attend the final awards ceremony in the summer of 2016 with two parents or guardians.
