Lyndon Yamane has to wait a while for Peeps since it’s Veterans Day, and not Easter. Lyndon had his Peeps shirt on (where do you find those?) at the Veterans Day parade (kudos to Charlene Dorsey, Aida Cruz and all of the many hands that went into this great event!).
Mark Perriello got the Kauai Chamber of Commerce people out in force, walking in the parade and distributing patriotic gear (got mine from Cub Scouts from Troop 334, Holy Cross, thank you — and happy birthday to Jonah Stein!), and Ron Wiley was parked in a “strategic” location so he could whiz off to the Grove Farm Swap Meet (did the rain shut it down early?) as soon as the last unit passed.
Gen. Mary Kay Hertog walked the entire parade route, and even got to chat with Reviewing Officer Brig. Gen. Bruce Oliveira. After that, she was in the Raf’s Kitchen (he parks at the Veterans Center parking lot, Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) line (those hot dogs looked pretty good), although Becky Komaki of the West Kauai United Methodist Church (Placido Valenciano was doing malasadas after the swim meet in Waimea) was waiting for her fried chicken at the yellow lunch wagon.
Veterans Day service is Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery. Don’t be late!
