LIHUE — Kimm Solchaga of Malama Pono Health Services was thrilled to accept a Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation check for $10,000 Wednesday from the Zonta Club of Kauai.
“The Malama Pono Health Services Women’s Wellness Program is a new offering from Malama Pono,” said Mistee Bailey-Myrick, Malama Pono director. “The funds from this award is a big help toward getting us to equip the program.”
The grant was a result of a Zonta Club hands-on service project done under the Weinberg Friends program.
“Our Zonta Club members — we don’t do yardwork, and we don’t paint — created Happy Baskets for Kauai Hospice,” said MaBel Fujiuchi, Zonta Club event chair. “Following the creation of the Happy Baskets, the club recommended that Malama Pono Health Service, one of several groups who requested help, be the donor of the Weinberg award in the amount of $10,000 for its women’s health program.”
With Halloween knocking on the door, the Zonta Club of Kauai will next turn its attention to the annual Christmas fund, where it will be working to fulfill holiday lists from people.
“Deadline for the applications for the Christmas fund is Friday,” said Dimples Kano, Zonta Club member. “After that, we go through the lists of who needs what and work to try and fill the list before Christmas.”
