LIHUE — The trial date has been set for the man charged with stabbing death of Gary Allen Allianic Jr.
Francisco Keola Manuel, 37, appeared before 5th Circuit Court Judge Randal Valenciano Thursday and pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder of Allianic. His trial is set for Feb. 1.
Around 4 a.m. on Sept. 26, a newspaper carrier found the body of Allianic. An autopsy conducted by Dr. Alvin Omori revealed that Allianic had received at least seven stab wounds, but one specific wound to his right upper chest had been fatal enough to cause his lung to collapse. He ruled Allianic’s death a homicide, but said had Allianic been rushed to the hospital, he might have survived.
An investigation later led police to Manuel, who found him near the Historic County Building and arrested him shortly after 6 p.m. Sept. 26. He was then taken into custody and held until he was charged with murder, according to court records.
While he was in custody, Manuel confessed to getting into a fight with Allianic and killing him with a knife in the parking lot of the Garden Island Barbecue in the early hours of Sept. 26, according to court records.
Bail for Manuel is set for $1 million.
