POIPU — A 60-year-old male visitor from Porter Ranch, California, was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital this afternoon where he was pronounced dead.
The man was swimming at Shipwreck Beach in Poipu at approximately 1:17 p.m. when he encountered difficulty, according to a county newsrelease.
Bystanders brought him to shore and began performing CPR on the victim. When lifeguards from the Poipu tower arrived they took over.Firefighters from the Koloa station also performed CPR on the victim.
The man was then transported to the hospital via ambulance.
Life Bridges responded to the hospital to provide assistance to the family.
