The 3rd Wave Celebration held Saturday to benefit the Kauai Lifeguard Association “exceeded all expectations.”
Organizer Andy Melamed said there was an overwhelming response to the event that featured music, food and $52,000 in prizes offered in live and silent auctions.
The 44 sponsor tables sold out in just 12 days in June, and contributions poured in until the night of the event.
“And what an event it was,” Melamed said.
Proceeds from the 3rd Wave Celebration will go toward high-powered PA systems and megaphones for Kauai’s towers and ATVs used by lifeguards. It will also benefit the operation of the new ocean safety trailer that will be used in the junior and keiki lifeguard training sessions, at schools, parades and community functions.
“The response to the cause as well as the event itself left no doubt in anyone’s mind that a 4th Wave with new and challenging goals concerning ocean safety will be forthcoming and on the horizon,” Melamed wrote.
Denise Wardlow and the Westin Princeville Resort staff also presented KLA with a check for $29,300 raised during a silent auction and donations held on their property during a Jazz and Wine Festival last month.
