Excitement brewed at The Shops at Kukuiula as Helen Lacono, aka The Soup Lady, said she’s turning over the stoves at Hanapepe Cafe to Kuu Breen (remember her getting that special culinary award at the Kauai Community College graduation?). Helen said she’s going to be the “souperviser” while Kuu and Reggie do the kitchen with fresh seafood and other tasty (and healthy) goodies Friday night only from 5 p.m., joining the Midnight Bear Bread people. Helen will be doing soups and continue as The Soup Lady Wednesdays at The Shops at Kukuiula.
Jennifer Ortal said when she’s not doing lei at The Kauai Culinary Market, she is joined by her family as Sweet Treats (doughnuts are the specialty) with Street Meat at Obsessions Cafe (if you’re lucky, you might even see Dennis Okihara) in Waimea. Jennifer and Elvrine Chow got visited by Pam Brown Varma and friends who were excited to learn about the Varsity Victory Volunteers.
Ada and Ari Koene got to enjoy the shade while enjoying the fragrance of plumeria next to the lei makers’ table, and Sandy Poenhelt is right in the middle of all the action (Johnny Gordines said Roy Yamaguchi was distributing free pork belly samples) at the weekly Kauai Culinary Market.
