Nelson Kaai says he loves coconuts because it fills his time by having to climb trees, clean the nuts, and demonstrate its versatility. His joy in working with the niu is contagious as people eager to learn more crowd his table at the Coconut Marketplace farmers market on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Nelson said he also spends Monday at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club doing coconuts.
Kudos to the Kauai Association for Conflict Resolution-Hawaii Chapter on observing Conflict Resolution Day in Hawaii on Thursday. Dr. Laurette DeMandel-Schaller said if everyone knew mediation techniques, there would be no bullying, and Destiny Navalta said when there are problems arising at Kapaa High School, the administration comes to Keith Kitamura and the Peer Mediation Club (there’s no more Peer Mediation class because Keith now teaches college prep).
Nevaeh Arruda-Kapu said she’s ready for the KIF cross country race this week, and Brenda Viado said she’s busier now that she’s retired. Kudos to MaBel Fujiuchi of KEO (they just celebrated 50 years) and Jessie Basquez, who heads up the mediation program of KEO which was started in 1982.
